Evan Garret Stenzel is an up and coming American tenor from Iowa Falls, Iowa who currently resides in Morristown, New Jersey. Mr. Stenzel is a current candidate for his Doctorate of Musical Arts with a specialty in Vocal Pedagogy at New York University’s prestigious Steinhardt program. Along with academia Mr. Stenzel has proven himself to be equally as cunning and vocally charming on both the operatic and musical theatre scene. Most recently he has been seen portraying Sheriff Conifer in NYU Steinhardt’s Broadway Workshop of Nancy Drew in collaboration with Alan Menken, James Lapine, Nell Benjamin, and Sarah Kernohan. He also recently won NYC-NATS adult classical competition and recieved second place in adult musical theater. Mr. Stenzel has also been a featured soloist for numerous concert appearances at universities through out the united states. The past years have seen him traveling as far as Zürich, Switzerland for engagements on the stage. He is comfortable in Rossini to Puccini as well as classical to contemporary musical theatre. He has been seen in Finger Lakes Opera’s production of La Bohéme as Parpignol. There he was directed by the prestigious Michael Ehrman and Gerard Floriano. He has resided at Finger Lakes Opera for numerous years as a member of their Young Artist Program. Through this he performed numerous scenes from operas such as Rigoletto and Les pêcheurs de perles, where he portrayed the roles of the Duke and Nadir, respectively. He also performed leading roles in two of their children’s operas. Prior to this, he completed his Masters Degree at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey where he studied under the direction of Christopher Arneson. While in Princeton, Mr. Stenzel was seen as Jenik in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride and Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff. He completed his undergraduate degree in Vocal Music Education from Iowa State University. There he was seen in numerous musical theatre and opera productions- Les Misérables as Jean Valjean and Fiddler on the Roof as Motel are among his main credits.

As a teacher Mr. Stenzel currently resides at two prestigious academic settings.
He began his work at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey in 2017 following the completion of his Master’s degree. There he has maintained a studio of about fifteen to twenty voice students a semester and has been an integral part of the musical and theater department. He was music director of their 2022 production of Working: A Musical and their 2020 production of Spring Awakening. The latter receiving much celebration and awareness on YouTube. In these productions many of his students held leading and supporting roles. He also has taught musical theater techniques and history as well as aided in the choral department both as section leader and assistant directing.
In 2024 Mr. Stenzel was invited to join the Faculty of New York University where he teaches lessons to non-majors. There he teaches a plethora of students whose skills range from novice to advanced. Some of Mr. Stenzel’s students are even working on and off broadway.
Mr. Stenzel, an advanced vocal pedagogue and Vocologist has a Vocology certificate from NYU-SPS. He has a passion for habilitating voices that have been hurt and miss used . He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of SInging and Pan American Vocology Association. He aims to replace vocal stigma with vocal knowledge and awareness. Everyone deserves a chance to sing and be the vocalist that they desire to be. The next few years see Mr. Stenzel pursuing and obtaining his Pan American Vocology Association- Registered Vocologist status.
